Benefits of Adoption
There are many benefits to adopting a pet from a rescue or shelter, as opposed to buying from a pet store or breeder!
Affordability
Pet stores charge hundreds or thousands of dollars for ‘purebred’ pets as opposed to One Tail’s adoption fee, which goes back into helping us care for more saved lives. And did you know that one-third of animals in shelters are purebred? If you are looking for a specific breed, then be sure to look into shelters and rescues because you may just find your new best friend!
You’re supporting a great cause
One Tail works tirelessly to find homes for animals that are in dire need, as many of our animals come to us in their ‘last hour.’ When you buy a pet from a pet store, you are not getting an animal that came from a respectable breeder. Rather, you are supporting an industry that thrives on short-changing the welfare of animals. Puppy mills or ‘backyard breeders’ that sell their animals to stores are in the business of turning a profit. These animals are often in ill-health and have poor socialization skills due to lack of human interaction and genetic defects due to inbreeding.
You know what you’re getting with a rescue animal
A pet purchased at a store is a complete unknown, and once you walk out you’re on your own as a new parent. All of our animals go through foster care, so when you adopt from WCAF we are able to give you a well-rounded picture of each animal’s personality and needs. We are also dedicated to providing as much support as you need for the life of your pet.
You get just as much love (if not more)
An adopted pet is every bit as loving, intelligent and loyal as a purchased pet, even if you get an adult or senior animal.
And all of our animals are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped at no extra cost to the adopter!
