Our girl Margot, the cattle dog that was on the loose for 6 months, is once again missing in Chicago.

She was spotted previously in Humboldt Park just north of Division between Humboldt Blvd and Kedzie.  On Monday, August 9th she was spotted near Elston and Augusta going into an overgrown, fenced off lot across from a Yellow Cab company lot.

We need your help in spreading the word to any and all contacts you have in the Goose Island, Noble Square, East Village, Wicker Park, Ukrainian Village, Humboldt Park, and Logan Square areas. We found out where she was last time through a chain of people that ultimately led to one of our postings that someone had seen.  All sighting reports have been through flyers.  Spreading the word really does make a difference, so please do anything you’re able to help!

One Tail will have a sponsor table at the Vintage Bazaar pop-up Market!

The Vintage Bazaar takes place on Sunday, August 22 from 12PM – 7PM at the Congress Theater, 2135 N. Milwaukee Ave., in Logan Square. The event is free to shoppers and offers DJ entertainment, alcohol sales, and snacks.

The Vintage Bazaar is an upscale modern flea market offering vintage housewares, furniture, decor, clothing and accessories at affordable prices. Co-founders Libby Alexander and Katherine Raz, design bloggers who also sell vintage decor, conceived the market as an antiques and vintage showcase at flea market prices in an urban setting with a diverse array of vintage vendors, plus music and adult beverages. The first Vintage Bazaar took place February 27, 2010 at the DANK Haus in Lincoln Square and was attended by over 3,000 eager shoppers.

Today we lost a member of the One Tail at a Time family. Dutch came to us two years ago from a shelter that was closing and had impending euthanasia dates. He was quickly placed into a foster home where his family failed Foster 101 and adopted this big goofy Dachshund.

Dutch lived the next two years loving life and his family. Dutch had kidney disease, but he was a happy fun-loving boy. At One Tail at a Time’s Family Reunion Dutch showed up with a big smile on his face ready to play. He made us all laugh and smile as he trotted by. We will miss that trot.

Dutch’s adopters had this to say about life and loss with Dutch:
This is easily the worst heartache I’ve had in my life so far but I wouldn’t trade a second of it because the love Dutch returned overpowers the pain. Dutch was truly resilient — he is a perfect example of a shelter dog who just needed love and a good home to succeed in. Dutch was an amazing dog. Thanks to OTAT he was able to have a second chance and the life he deserved.

Recently, one of One Tail at a Time’s adopted dogs with a pre-existing medical condition started to become unusually ill, causing her adopter to unexpectedly incur thousands in medical bills. Pinecone was found behind a home by a One Tail volunteer with her legs covered in cuts from a recent attack by another dog. After speaking with her owners, it was discovered that she had been living for months in constant pain with two severely cracked teeth, and was suffering from undiagnosed epilepsy. When the family offered to give her up, One Tail took her in without question and gave her the medical treatment she so badly needed. After a good bath, two surgeries and full vetting, Pinecone was feeling better than she had in a long time and made sure everyone around her knew it!

We soon found out that Pinecone suffered from epilepsy and had occasional seizures. We were worried about finding the right home for her, but someone must have been watching out for her when a graduate student studying the neurological condition applied for her adoption. For the first few months of her adoption, things seemed to be going well for Pinecone. Unfortunately after that time, Pinecone’s epilepsy started progressing at a rate that no one could expect, surprising even her doctors. Her seizures increased both in intensity and quantity, and her body was no longer responding to increases in her daily medication. While she is currently doing well on a new medication, her adopter has spent more on vet visits and weekends in the ER than most families could afford in these hard economic times.

The doctors and we know that the stress caused by re-homing has the potential to cause Pinecone’s epilepsy to increase even further, and so we are now looking to raise as much as we can by May 30th to help offset Pinecone’s medical costs and keep this wonderful dog in her equally wonderful home.
