Volunteer Opportunities
One Tail at a Time is an all-volunteer dog rescue. We do not have a shelter, rather all of our dogs are cared for by volunteer foster homes. Many of our volunteer opportunities are on an as-needed basis and are crucial to helping save dogs’ lives. If you would like to get involved please contact KellyOTAT@gmail.com to receive a Volunteer Information Form.

Adoption/Foster Counseling
If you consider yourself to be dog savvy and have experience working with dogs, then becoming an Adoption/Foster Counselor may be for you! AFC’s are an integral part of One Tail’s adoption process and help with screening potential foster and adoptive homes, finalizing adoptions, and acting as a resource for foster homes and new parents. This is the perfect opportunity for people that want to have a more hands-on role in getting the wonderful, deserving pups of One Tail at a Time into the best home for them!
Since one aspect of being an AFC is introducing dogs to potential fosters and adopters, a car is required for this position.
Adoption Events
Spending as little as a few hours on a weekend afternoon can allow us to spread our resources and host more of these incredibly helpful events. Volunteers at adoption events provide the invaluable service of handling and introducing dogs to interested families. You are also helping to inform the public of the movement to make Chicago a no-kill city and the importance of spaying/neutering in lowering pet overpopulation.
Fundraising
At Fundraisers, Volunteers help to collect donations, distribute information about One Tail and our mission, and hopefully recruit new volunteers or potential forever homes! We are also in need of motivated, energetic individuals to help us put together fundraising events.
Animal Transport and Playtime
We are occasionally in need of volunteers that are able to transport to/from vet appointments or grooming, give our dogs in boarding some individual attention, or provide daytime walks to dogs in foster care. All of these are important in the transition of our dogs from the shelter to their forever homes. As our resources and ability to care for more animals grow, so does our ability to rescue more animals!
Beyond these options, different types of events require a myriad of various volunteer activities. These activities seem simple, but in reality a large part of what makes a rescue function is having people in these positions that care about animals, are willing to give some of their time, and who know that together we can make a tremendous difference in the lives of countless animals.
