Adoptions Coordinator

Work Days: Full-time, weekend hours required.
Salary: $45,000 with benefits
Start Date: ASAP

The Adoption Coordinator is a customer service orientated dog lover who finds joy in matching foster dogs with adopters. The Adoption Coordinator uses their skill set in working with people and understanding dog behavior to make matches and complete adoptions. The Adoption Coordinator will work partly from home and is required to be on-site during open adoption hours on select days at our Bucktown Adoption Center. The ability to work on-call shifts on Mondays is required.

 

Duties:

  • Review and answer adoption applications using OTAT’s “open adoption” model
  • Answer emails and make phone calls to assist applicants in finding a dog
  • Assist Spanish speaking applicants in the adoption process
  • Conduct introductions with potential adopters and foster animals
  • Maintain OTAT’s spreadsheets and databases
  • Follow established OTAT policies and protocols
  • Maintain and update relevant medical records for adoptable animals
  • Monitor medical and behavioral health with adoptable animals
  • Communicate and coordinate with other OTAT programs as needed
  • Work on-site during on select days as determined by business needs
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bilingual Spanish and English required
  • Experience working with dogs using positive reinforcement techniques preferred
  • Comfort and ability to handle a variety of sizes and temperaments required
  • Shelter or rescue experience preferred
  • A love for working with both people and dogs
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent email communication skills
  • Excellent phone communication skills
  • An attention to detail and willingness to commit to excellency in administrative tasks
  • A positive outlook and a sense of humor
  • Ability to work independently, balanced with an ability to work within a team and ensure a collaborative approach
  • Ability to manage emotional aspects of rescue work in a professional manner
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license and comfort driving larger vehicles
