Salary and Benefits:
Full Time: $110,000 annually with health/vision/dental insurance, retirement matching, generous paid time off, CE and professional license reimbursement, and loan forgiveness qualification

Part Time: Up to 20/hrs per week at an hourly rate of $60/hr

Schedule: Flexible schedule; Tuesday-Saturday

Overview: One Tail at a Time’s Staff Veterinarian provides essential medical services to the pets and rescue animals that need OTAT the most. This position ensures that Community and Shelter patients are receiving high quality/compassionate care within an efficient cost structure. Principal responsibilities include assisting the Shelter and Community Medicine staff with medical duties/tasks and maintaining compliance with all policies, procedures, and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Medicine (80%)

• Provide compassionate, quality preventive and basic care to patients in underserved areas, overseeing all aspects of veterinary care including telehealth initiatives, physical examinations, diagnostics, treatment recommendations and delivery, prescribing of medications and discharge information.
• Perform pre-surgery physical examinations on all surgical candidates
• Perform an average of 10-15 spay/neuters per scheduled surgery day and up to 25 – 40 high quality, high volume spay/neuter surgical procedures per spay/neuter clinic day
• Diagnose and treat post-surgical medical complications
• Practice Fear Free animal handling to minimize fear, anxiety and stress for patients and people in care
• Triage and refer cases that do not fall within our program parameters, as appropriate
• Perform humane euthanasia to ease suffering
• Provide support and medical services for animals within OTAT departments as needed, including evaluation and treatment of dogs/cats/exotics available for adoption
• Maintain clear, accurate and timely patient records

Client Service (10%)

• Communicate with clients in a respectful, nonjudgmental way; discuss physical examination and test results to allow pet owners to make informed decisions about their pet’s care
• Counsel owners about end of life and other sensitive medical concerns
• Provide discharge instructions for patients and oversee the dispensing of medications
• Occasionally support the OTAT’s CRISP and PMA teams by providing medical care for pets at a client’s residence/in the field when transporting to the Ellis Clinic is not practical

Administrative/Teamwork (10%)

• Document exam findings, test results and treatment recommendations according to OTAT protocols and guidelines
• Communicate effectively with Community Medicine, CRISP and other OTAT staff
• Support the training & development of OTAT staff, volunteers and interns
• Attend Workshops or staff meetings as requested
