Become a Foster Home
Foster homes are an integral part of One Tail at a Time. Without caring, open-minded, and patient individuals and families to help transition One Tail dogs into a home setting, our rescue could not carry out our mission or accomplish our goals.
As a foster parent, you are helping give an animal a new lease on life! Because we do not have a shelter, we rely heavily on foster homes. By providing a temporary home for one of our dogs, you are agreeing to care for that animal for 7 days or longer. Some transport to/from the vet might be necessary, but not in every case. Also, because it is possible that a rescued animal has experienced abuse, neglect, or abandonment, we ask all of our foster homes to provide love, patience, and understanding to their foster animal.
One Tail will provide you with all that you need to foster, including a crate, food, toys, leash/collar, medications, and all the support you as a foster home may need! If you happen to run out of essentials and have to buy something, One Tail will reimburse you. Just like our adoptive homes, we always try to the best of our ability to match the foster animal to the foster home. We will never show up on your doorstep with a 100-pound mastiff and ask you and your Chihuahua to open your home to him for 7 days! We will always take into consideration you, your lifestyle, and other members of your household, before asking you to foster a pet.
Fostering is perfect for animal lovers who already have pets of their own, people who have worked with rescues in the past (although this is not necessary), or just anyone who absolutely loves animals but is not ready or able to make the commitment for the life of an animal. Similar to our adoption procedure, a separate Foster Home application and screening process is required.
