Longtime One Tail volunteer Misako loves to spend her mornings (and sometimes her afternoons… and sometimes her evenings…) taking care of pups. Misako has done it all as a volunteer, from cleaning up disastrously messy kennels to snuggling dogs on the famous blue couch. 

What she loves most about volunteering, though, is taking stressed out or long-term One Tail residents on walks through the neighborhood, to the 606 or along the Chicago River.

“Sometimes we walk for two hours, and I don’t even mean to!” Misako told us. “I like the fresh air, the sunshine, the exercise and especially the company. Sometimes I get bored walking by myself, but the dogs never bore me!”

Misako says she loves that the dogs get a chance to sniff at nature, to decompress and to enjoy the world around them. Memorable walks have included taking former long-term resident Fish Fry on a winter adventure to go sledding and get pupachinos and walking goofy girl Ms. Roscoe through the neighborhood, where she charmed humans and canines alike.

“She was super popular!” Misako told us.

Recently, Misako has built a strong friendship with long-term cuddlebug Freckles. “He is so smart and handsome. His wrinkle jowls are spectacular. And he doesn’t mind when I sing karaoke in front of him. He is very patient. There is so much to love!”
